Pope Francis has announced that 2015 will be a year dedicated to the promotion of consecrated life. His own words clue us to his intent: that for the Church to grow it needs the “witness associated with attitudes with are uncommon: generosity, detachment, sacrifice, self-forgetfulness in order to care for others…. This is the witness, the ‘martyrdom of religious life’. “Religious should be men and women who are able to wake up the world”. -Pope Francis at the 82nd general assembly of the union of Superiors General in Rome. Year of Consecrated Life.“Religious Life ought to promote growth in the church by way of attraction. The church must be attractive. Wake up the world! Be witnesses of a different way of doing things, of acting, of living! . . . It is this witness that I expect of you. Religious should be men and women who are able to wake the world up.” —Pope Francis, meeting with the Union of Superiors General, November 29, 2013
