Praying the Rosary

The recitation of the Rosary requires a calm rhythm and a reflective pause that favor in the one who prays the meditation of the mysteries of the Lord’s life, seen through the Heart of the One who was closest to the Lord” (Pope St. Paul VI).

I like to think of praying the Rosary as sitting down with Mary and looking through the old Holy Family photo album. It is an intimate moment shared with my Mother in which I simply rest with her and listen to her tell me stories of her Son’s life. Through the mysteries of the Rosary, she reveals her heart and her Son’s heart to me. In return, I am inclined to reveal my heart to her, entrusting it to her maternal care. As I reflect on the joys and sorrows of the lives of Jesus and Mary, their response to such moments teaches me how I am to respond to my own joyful and sorrowful moments. The more I meditate on the virtues of Jesus and Mary, the better I am able to imitate those virtues in my own life.

The Rosary is the simplest way to sanctify the most monotonous moments of our day. While driving the car, waiting in line, or when that meeting at the office drags on just a bit too long- what if instead of pulling out the phone, we pulled out Rosary beads? Just one decade can bring about inner peace as it sanctifies the “boring” moments of our day. The Rosary truly gives us a way to “pray constantly” (1 Thessalonians 5:17).

In this month of October, the month dedicated to the Most Holy Rosary, our Holy Father Pope Leo XIV invites us to pray the Rosary every day. Let us pray the Rosary for the conversion of souls, for peace in the world, and for our own growth in holiness and virtue. Our Lady, Queen of the Most Holy Rosary, pray for us!
