“The ultimate end of the whole divine economy is the entry of God’s creatures into the perfect unity of the Blessed Trinity. But even now we are called to be a dwelling for the Most Holy Trinity…” (CCC 260)
Distinct in Persons, but one in Essence—this is the Trinity. Perfect and Eternal Communion.
I oftentimes wonder, especially when life gets hard and I come face to face with my weaknesses and seemingly insurmountable imperfections…I often wonder, what are we still doing here, wandering on this planet, like our forefathers in Exodus? Abba, what is taking so long and when are we going home?
Today is a day of respite and great rejoicing! Because the Trinity reminds us of our ultimate end—union with Him!
The Persons are perfectly One, and through grace we are invited to share in that divine communion.
This Truth is secure.
I am convinced that there is not a person in this world who has never experienced disappointment. Even an infant feels the distress of hunger and cries out in his need. From our earliest moments, we become acquainted with insufficiency, longing, and uncertainty. Yet amidst all the disappointments of life, our call to communion with God remains secure. Despite wounds, traumas, hurts, broken pasts, and painful histories, this Truth stands firm: we were made for the Trinity, and we are called to share in His divine life.
When we find ourselves burdened and heavy laden, it is good to put into perspective our ultimate end so as to be filled with consolation and to help propel us to hope because we were made for glory. And indeed, glory is ours even now. Let us pray for the graces of fidelity and final perseverance to remain in the Unity of the Trinity.
Should we find ourselves off track, we must find our way back to God through the Sacraments especially in Confession and in the Eucharist, and also in honest prayer, “Lord, help me remain in union with you. Give me actual graces to help me in my particular circumstance. Help me to overcome for love of you.” If we pray with childlike faith and trust, Our Father will give us necessary graces to keep dwelling with him one day at a time, one step at a time, in every circumstance we find ourselves in.
A helpful reminder:
“For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him.” John 3:16-17
It is the Trinity’s ardent desire that we be saved and have Communion with Him. Do we also desire this for ourselves? How is God asking you to take practical steps to draw nearer to Him?
