Sacred Heart of Jesus

Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus

Today we celebrate the Heart that has loved men so much, and continues to love us even till today.

In honor of the Sacred Heart we leave you with quotes from St. Margaret Mary Alacoque, a Visitation nun, to whom Christ revealed His Sacred Heart.

On the Love of the Sacred Heart

"Behold this Heart which has so loved men that It has spared nothing, even to exhausting and consuming Itself, in order to testify Its love."

(From the Great Revelation of June 1675)

"The Divine Heart is an inexhaustible fountain, whose sole desire is to pour itself into the hearts of the humble."

"The Sacred Heart of Jesus is an abyss of love into which every need can be cast and from which every grace can be drawn."

"The Heart of Jesus is a burning furnace of love."

"His Heart is the source of all blessings, the center of all virtues, and the refuge of all souls."

On Trust and Surrender

"Place all your trust in this adorable Heart and fear nothing."

"The Heart of Jesus will take care of everything if we abandon ourselves entirely to Him."

"The surest way to His Heart is through confidence."

"Let us honor the Heart of Jesus in every beat of our own."

On Reparation and Love

"Love conquers love; therefore the Heart of Jesus asks only for our hearts."

"Return love for love to this Divine Heart, which loves us so tenderly."

"The Sacred Heart seeks hearts that will love Him, console Him, and make reparation for those who forget Him."

Other Saints on the Sacred Heart

St. Claude de la Colombière

(The spiritual director of St. Margaret Mary)

"The Sacred Heart of Jesus is a furnace of love, burning for men and desiring only to make them happy."

St. John Eudes

"The Heart of Jesus is a heaven of love."

Pope Pius XII

"The devotion to the Sacred Heart is the most effective school of the love of God."

St. Thérèse of Lisieux

"I understood that the Church had a Heart and that this Heart was burning with love."

St. Gertrude the Great

"The Heart of Jesus is a treasure so immense that no one can comprehend its riches."

Prayer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus

Traditional Prayer

O most holy Heart of Jesus, fountain of every blessing,

I adore You,

I love You,

and with lively sorrow for my sins,

I offer You this poor heart of mine.

Make me humble, patient, pure,

and wholly obedient to Your will.

Grant, good Jesus,

that I may live in You and for You.

Protect me in the midst of danger,

comfort me in my afflictions,

give me health of body,

assistance in my temporal needs,

Your blessing on all that I do,

and the grace of a holy death.

Amen.

Act of Consecration to the Sacred Heart

O Sacred Heart of Jesus,

I give myself to You.

Take all that I am, all that I have, all that I do,

and all that I suffer.

Let my mind think with You, my heart love with You,

my will act with You.

Reign in me now and forever.

Amen.

Litany Invocation

Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in You.

This short prayer was especially beloved by St. Margaret Mary and is often repeated throughout the day.

Prayer of St. Margaret Mary

O Sacred Heart of Jesus,

grant that I may love You and make You loved.

May Your pure love so possess my heart

that I may forget myself entirely

and live only for Your glory.

May I seek only Your good pleasure

in all that I do.

Amen.

A Prayer for Growth in Charity

Sacred Heart of Jesus,

living furnace of divine charity,

consume in me all that is contrary to Your love.

Purify my intentions,

strengthen my will,

enlarge my heart,

and teach me to love God above all things

and my neighbor for His sake.

Let every beat of my heart be an act of love,

praise, and thanksgiving to the Father.

Draw me ever deeper into Your Heart,

until I am transformed by charity

and become a faithful witness of Your love.

Amen.
