“The One Invitation”
Today, people host events, meetings, and parties, and before everything is set, they send out "The Invitation,” hoping you'll accept and attend. When someone special invites you to an important banquet, you adjust your plans to avoid missing it or disappointing them. In today’s Gospel, Jesus tells a similar parable about a king preparing a grand feast and his guests' surprising, disappointing response.
'Tell those invited: "Behold, I have prepared my banquet,
my calves and fattened cattle are killed,
and everything is ready; come to the feast.
Some ignored the invitation and went away,
one to his farm, another to his business.”
Their response reflects ignorance and neglect, which was considered a social insult in Jesus’ time. We can assume this invitation was significant. Every Sunday, our Heavenly King offers us a banquet; yet how often do we treat this invitation as a nuisance, caught up in our own affairs? What reasons do we give for not attending the Eucharist? Let’s be honest, because God is always inviting us. Ultimately, it’s our choice: if we want to accept and be there, we must let God change our hearts and put on “the wedding garments,” which symbolize that change. Consider this: if it were your last chance to answer God’s call, would you ignore it?
